About
JAMTGÅRDESIGN is a creative design consultancy that specializes in branded environments, interior architecture and urban placemaking. Our aim is to create considered spaces that focus on a narrative specific to the client and brand, with an emphasis on materials, detailing, quality and finish.
Paul Jamtgaard grew up near Portland, OR where its innovations in land-use, alternative transportation and sustainable architecture provided the foundation of his approach to architecture and urban design. After beginning his career as an apprentice in the office of Kenzo Tange, while living in Tokyo, Japan he returned to the US to earn a Master of Architecture from UC Berkeley, winning Hiroshi Hara traveling fellowship and Takenaka fellowship to return to work in Tokyo. His time working in Japan provided a deep appreciation for craft, scale, detail and the interplay between materials, light and the human body. Following a decade working on urban design and large scale mixed-use developments, in 2003, he took a mid-career sabbatical, enrolling in Harvard's Graduate School of Design Masters of Advanced Design Studies, crafting his own program combining urban design and emerging digital technologies.
